I have loads of faith in the current manager so I hope we are patient as fans. TAS: I’d take consolidation this year, I’m sick of yo-yoing so would prefer to gradually build a good squad. LTW: The football season has started and your beloved Sunderland are back in the Championship, what are your predictions/hopes for 2022/3? He did ask Miles Kane though but has been watching him for a long time. He hasn’t got too many selfies I don’t think. TAS: He really enjoyed the Courteeners gig the other day, that was bouncing too. LTW: Has your Dad enjoyed any particular? He must have an impressive collection of selfies? Best feeling ever getting such a reaction. Our bassist Katie didn’t even know the bass part but just went along with it, it was electric. We played a festival called Carabana and our stage faced onto Lake Geneva, we completely packed it out and at the end of the set we ended up doing a completely unrehearsed encore. TAS: Without a doubt the highlight was in Switzerland. LTW: You’ve had a pretty spectacular summer with the festivals and playing Hyde Park with Elton John, Is it possible to select one highlight? Smith: Pretty great in all honesty, I’m having such a good time at the moment. Iain Key caught up with the busy teenager for a chat about his recent adventures and the new EP. It also includes new tracks Toronto and If I Was. It’s another bold and heady dose of shimmering aesthetics and atmospheric songwriting his newest gem harks back to the relatable struggles we all suffered during the pandemic and how resilience has kept us all moving forward. The lead track from the EP is the mid tempo, lyric driven Man Overboard. He’s already given us a taste for his new EP by the way of the well received Could I Live With Being Fake and Never Good Enough. Oh and he’s also supported Courteeners Miles Kane Gang of Youths, Martha Hill and a number of others in recent months with more dates on the horizon as well as the opening slot at Leeds Festival. Over the last couple of months he’s supported Sir Elton John in Hyde Park done sets at Glastonbury The Great Escape Neighbourhood Weekender Barn On The Farm Truck Festiva, Belladrum and the F1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Tom continues to go from strength to strength. Smith, our favourite 18 year old singer/songwriter from Sunderland has released EP2 the follow up to EP1 including lead track, Man Overboard.
